Study of A Prayer

This post is a follow up to my previous post, “When Life Does Not Stop,” and is a deep dive into the concepts I shared, specifically in the prayer, to see where in Scripture those ideas are stated. I have had quite a bit of Biblical teaching over the course of my life, (though no academic degree). Most of it has been from my church, while other teaching has been from college classes or from mission’s trips. There are things that I have come to know about God, and while I know that these concepts are true, I do not always remember where in the Bible those concepts are stated.

When I wrote the prayer in my previous post (When Time Does Not Stop) I was writing from memory. By taking the time to look up Scripture passages that talk about each attribute or topic I mentioned, I was able to be encouraged and make sure that what I was saying matched up with Scripture. Making the list took me much longer than I anticipated, but I am so glad that I did it! One of the best parts was that I was able to see the continuity of Scripture as verses in the Old Testament were quoted or fulfilled in the New Testament, and attributes of God remained the same throughout. Hebrews 4:12 says,

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” 1

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 2

What concepts about faith or God do you want to study more? Take some time this week to look up a concept you are interested in, or pick one of the concepts listed below and read through the verses. Let God’s written word speak to you as you study, and remember that time spent in Scripture is never wasted!

Most of the passages I have listed below are more than one verse, and this is on purpose. One of the best ways to understand the meaning and intent of an individual verse is by looking at the verses before and after and by understanding the context. May this list be as much of a help to you as it is becoming for me!
